Turn Intention Into Action

“We've been meaning to look into this.” I hear some version of that sentence constantly — in assessments, from friends, sometimes from people in the support group I walk alongside, before they finally say the harder thing underneath it. It is almost never about laziness, and it's almost never about denial either, even though it can look that way from the outside. It's about not knowing where to start. It's about dreading the conversation with a parent who might push back. It's about being too worn down, at the end of an already exhausting day, to add one more task to a plate that's already full.

That gap — between knowing something needs to happen and actually doing something about it — has a name I use often in my own head: intention without action. It's not a character flaw. It's just a very human place to get stuck. And it closes faster than most people expect, once you understand what actually closes it.

What actually closes the gap

It's not more information. Most families I sit with already have plenty of information by the time they talk to me. What's missing isn't knowledge — it's a specific, scheduled action attached to a real date and time.

Not “I'll look into it eventually,” but “I'm calling Tuesday at two o'clock.” Intention is a feeling. Action is a decision with a time attached to it, which makes it much harder to quietly let slide.

If you've been carrying this on your mental list for weeks, or months, I'd gently push you toward picking one date this week. It doesn't have to be the final decision — it just has to be the next concrete thing.

What that first call actually involves

A Placement Call is fifteen minutes, no obligation, and it's simply a conversation about where your family stands right now. Nobody is trying to sell you anything in that first call. The goal is just to help you see the picture more clearly than you can see it alone, worrying by yourself.

When you're ready to make that call, Gilgal's free 15-minute Placement Call is the easiest first move I can offer you. And if you'd rather prepare first, the Caregiver Starter Guide gives you a clear framework so you're ready instead of scrambling.
